Circus Parade Floats

· China (2018-2022)

Role: Concept & Scenic Design

Concept design for large-scale scenic floats created for a circus show in International Circus Chimelong.

My role focused on visual development, form language, and integration of functional movement, ensuring that articulated body elements and performance platforms allowed artists to operate and interact with the structures safely and effectively during live shows.

Role: Concept design & visual development

In this case, the project began without a predefined theme or stylistic direction. The open brief allowed for greater creative freedom within the park environment.

I focused on developing the overall design language and performer interaction, shaping the float platform to support dynamic movement, visibility, and engagement during live performance.

Theme Park Floats · SPIDER

· China · 2023

Role: Concept design & visual development

The initial brief called for three mobile stage units inspired by a steampunk spider aesthetic. During the development process, the concept evolved into a single large-scale mobile platform designed for a themed park environment.

The final structure is built around a truss-based framework and integrates an extensive lighting system, combining architectural structure with immersive visual effects.

Theme Park Floats · MUSIC

· China · 2021

Role: Concept design & visual development

This project involved the design of a mobile float for a music-themed park environment.
The structure incorporates a dedicated performance zone for musicians and dancers, carefully integrating staging, circulation, and audience visibility within a moving platform.

A suspended mechanical bird—originally designed by me for a circus production—was integrated into the composition, serving as a dynamic focal element and reinforcing the spectacle-driven character of the experience.

Conceptual Float Studies

Developing scenic machinery is one of my favorite aspects of design. I am constantly generating new ideas, which naturally leads me to explore the creation of floats and kinetic platforms across various themes.

Below is a series of animal-inspired float concepts, where I focused on functionality, articulated movement, and the interaction between performers and audience members.
